PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

What a great week we have had with some lovely sunshine rounding out our week. Our Year 3 – 6 students loved the cross country run on Tuesday and our special Anzac assembly was enjoyable for all. In particular I have been impressed with our student leaders as they have taken full control of assemblies, developing the agenda and writing the script. It was great to see this in action again on Monday.

Attitudes to School Survey

WE WANT OUR STUDENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

We value student voice as a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing, and quality instruction, and are conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of our school.

The AtoSS is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist our school to gain an understanding of students’ perceptions and experience of school. Students will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, bullying and life in general.

Students from Year 4 to 6 at our school will participate in the survey. Your child will complete the survey online during school hours using a purpose built secure online survey tool.  It is important to note that we are not in any way “testing” your child. Your child has the right to refuse or withdraw from the survey at any time.

Your child will be provided with a unique login to complete the survey. The student login is an assigned identifier that may be used to link data for statistical and research purposes only. All responses to the survey are kept anonymous in the response file. Personal identification data will not be recorded in the survey response file. This ensures that the confidentiality of your child’s responses is protected at all times.

This year the Attitudes to School survey will be conducted at our school over the period Monday 31 May to Friday 11 June. The survey takes around 20-45 minutes to complete and occurs during your child’s class time.

The survey results will be reported back to the school in an aggregate form throughout the survey period. All survey data that is made available in reports are for groups of students only so that no individual student can be identified. Data suppression rules are used for schools with low student numbers per year level.

The survey results will be communicated to you through our annual reporting mechanisims.

If you would like more information, please speak to your child’s teacher or visit: https://www2.education.vic.gov.au/pal/data-collection-surveys/guidance/attitudes-school-survey

Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI)

As you know the TLI commenced mid-way through last term. We have been looking at different ways to share the information around student progress to ensure that parents of students engaged in the program can receive up to date information. As a school we feel that the best way to keep you informed is through an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). This week students working in the TLI will receive an ILP through Compass.  To view an ILP use the reporting tab and select semester 1 ILPs. Inside the ILP you will find some specific and targeted goals that have been designed based on student understanding and formed specifically to work on the next point of need for each individual.

After the goals, you will see a breakdown of each assessment that your child has completed and an example of the skills that your child displayed during the assessment. Early in term 3 we will again send an ILP. This time we will have further data sets to demonstrate the progress that has been made during the course of the program.

Should you wish to discuss the ILP please contact your child’s tutor.

Keeping Our School Clean

At Rosanna Golf Links Primary School we are very fortunate to have state of the art facilities and attractive grounds for our students to use. We are proud that our community can share in the use of our wonderful facilities outside of school hours and we ask that everyone is mindful of the space and remembers to help us keep it clean by picking up after their dogs. Together we share the responsibility of keeping RGLPS beautiful and we thank you all for assisting us to maintain the grounds of the school.

Take care,

Kirrily Lamers

TEACHING AND LEARNING

Assessment and Reporting 2021

RGLPS teachers will soon commence work on Semester 1, 2021 reports. These will be released to parents/carers on Wednesday 23rd June 2021.

As Kirrily has mentioned in previous newsletters, the school is making adjustments to our reporting process at the moment. You will have noticed a number of annotated learning samples being uploaded to Seesaw last term illustrating your child’s learning achievement and progress. This will continue to occur with learning samples in English, Mathematics, Integrated Studies and specialist subjects being uploaded throughout the year. These samples will provide parents with a ‘snapshot in time’ around how your child is performing in various aspects of the Victorian Curriculum. Due to the detailed nature of these uploaded portfolio samples, the school has determined that an achievement comment on semester reports would be double handing. Given this, the school has decided that Semester One 2021 reports will consist of the following:

Classroom Teachers

  •   – Overview of Learning taught during the semester in English, Mathematics, Integrated Studies and Digital Technologies
  •   – General Comment about your child as a learner, with reference to the Personal and Social Capability in the Victorian Curriculum
  •   – Progression Points (dots) for the areas of the Victorian Curriculum covered during Semester One
  •   – Behaviour and Effort five point scale rating
  •

Specialist Teachers (Science, Visual Arts, Physical Education, Auslan, Prep – Year 2 Music)

  •   – Overview of Learning taught in that subject during the semester
  •   – Progression Points (dots) for the area of the Victorian Curriculum taught by that specialist
  •   – Behaviour and Effort five point scale rating for that specialist subject
  •   – Achievement Comment* for that subject

*Please note that specialist portfolio samples are not annotated with an assessment comment so specialist teachers will report on achievement via a brief written comment in the semester report.  –

NAPLAN 2021

NAPLAN for Year 3 and 5 students is fast approaching and will be held from Tuesday May 11th – 13th 2021:

If your child is participating in NAPLAN in 2021, please avoid making external appointments for your child on these dates.

Please direct any questions about the upcoming NAPLAN tests to your child’s classroom teacher or myself (phone – 9457 4178).

**2021 RGLPS Writer's Festival**

ANZAC DAY FLOWERS

“We had a gorgeous donation of flowers from Rosanna Golf links primary school yesterday , a big thank you from all the residents at Rosanna Views for your hand delivered flowers by the students.

Today the residents used the flowers in a flower arrangement activity that was thoroughly enjoyed by all, our home looks and smells amazing thanks to your thoughtful donation!

It was so heart warming to see so many caring and eager students who joyfully gave from the heart and respected the importance of seniors in our community, what a testament to their parents and to the school/ teachers for instilling such important values especially in this day and age.

Keep up the great work!

Sincere Thanks,

Japara Rosanna Views”

SCIENCE NEWS

SPACE WATTLE

Wattle seeds sent to space late last year are still on the International Space Station (ISS), circling Earth every 90 minutes. The photo shows the seeds onboard the ISS.

You can check where the ISS is at any time here: https://www.esa.int/Science_Exploration/Human_and_Robotic_Exploration/International_Space_Station/Where_is_the_International_Space_Station

Our seeds will be coming back to Earth soon and we hope to receive them in July.   Our Space Wattle Team (Ethan J, Yori K, Charlotte P, Ellie V, Kyle S, Allie G, Madeleine O, Luke E, Eva L, Lily J) can then start our Space Wattle project, growing and monitoring the Golden Wattle plants over days, months and years.

Best regards,

Ms Wheeler

On Tuesday May 4th we will be holding our Rosanna Golf Links Primary School Mother’s Day Stall.  We are asking children to bring in:

  1. Cash for the stall
  2. A recycled bag to put the items in

All items will be priced between $2 and $10.  We also require parent helpers for the day.  There are a variety of jobs and times for parents to volunteer, starting from 8:30am – 2:30pm, and helping to set up the stall, pack up the stall, count money and staff the stalls.  If you are able to help our stall, please sign up at the link below.

SPORT NEWS

Dear Parents and Students,

Last Friday saw the welcome return of Inter School Sport when St Martin’s came to RGLPS to play. Well done to Netball B and Girls Teeball who won their games and I would like to also say how proud I am of the Netball A, Boys Teeball and AFL teams who narrowly lost their games but put in a superb effort according to the Grade 6 teachers.

Next week we will play Macleod in Teeball and Netball at Macleod College. The AFL team however will play against Banyule Primary’s 2nd Team at Brockwell Oval (Macleod Primary is unable to field an AFL team this season).

Cross Country

Congratulations to all of the students who ran in the Cross Country this week. It was a very exciting finish with Green House winning their first shield of any type since 2015! Congratulations to the captains and their team. The Top 10 from each race are now eligible to compete for RGLPS at the District Cross Country later this term. If your child accepts their invitation to be part of the team, you will receive a notification in Compass soon. I would especially like to thank the following parents and grandparents for their assistance on the day: Suzanne T, Suzanne L, Rohan, Linda, Barney, Ling, Kate, Dani and Vera. Without your help, we could not run the House Cross Country so I am extremely thankful to you for giving up your day for our children!

Inter School Sport

This week we play away at Macleod Primary for Teeball and Netball and the AFL team will play away against Banyule 2 at Brockwell Oval. Good luck to all of the teams!

TeamVic

Congratulations to our basketballers Audrey, Jensen, Mitchell and Riley who made it through to the next round of the Basketball tryouts for the Victorian U/12 Basketball Team .

Thanks,
