IMPORTANT DATES!
PRINCIPALS’ REPORT
As usual, times are very busy at Golf Links. Preparations for a very busy week 9 are well underway. With STEM Festival, multiple excursions, planning week and the State Tee-ball finals all on next week we were in complete preparation mode. Our Tee-ballers had a very special visitor this week to give them some tips of the trade. Justin Huber, who was the 20th Australian recruited into major league baseball in America came over to share some words of wisdom with the teams. Our players were given some new techniques and inspirational words as they prepare for their finals assault. As I have said all along, we have so much pride for these athletes as their effort, engagement and team work has been first class. Regardless of the result, we are so very proud of your effort.
STEM Festival
Don’t forget that nest week is our first ever STEM festival.
On Monday the 4th of September we will have the opening of the STEM Festival at 6:00pm. We would love to see all of our families come and celebrate this with us.
On Wednesday the 6th of September, we are running a special session for parents about Maths learning at primary school. It is a great opportunity for our families to learn how we teach Maths and what you can do at home to help. Our special guest is Michael Ymer the renowned Maths specialist. Michael is an internationally recognised mathematics consultant, educator and master practitioner. He will lead a Parent Forum on the current best practice on the teaching of mathematics, and how parents can help their children improve their numeracy. With mathematics a key component of our strategic plan we want our parents to really share in the learning with us this year and keep that excitement about core curriculum at the forefront of what we do. I highly recommend this session having had the privilege of witnessing Michael present on many occasions. We do hope to see you there.
R U OK Day
R U OK? is a harm prevention charity that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through life’s ups and downs and on the 14th of September it is the official R U OK day for 2023. Whilst we build the social and emotional skills of our children by helping them develop the skills they need to support each other and be good friends throughout the year. The R U OK? message will be explicitly taught on this day. Wellbeing has become a core area of our curriculum with the DET’s mental health and wellbeing initiative giving us access to the resilience project this year. Coupled with our respectful relationships content we are able to explore these concepts regularly throughout the year. It means, important messages such as this one are always at the forefront of our learning.

Parent Information Session on Mathematics
On Wednesday 6th September from 6:30pm-8:00pm, parents and carers are invited to attend an information session on Mathematics. This event will be held in the school music building. While our preference is for parents to attend in person if at all possible, we will organise a Webex link for those who aren’t able to attend. Webex details will be provided via Compass closer to the date. Michael Ymer, specialist mathematics consultant, will address some of the following points:
- What is my child learning in mathematics?
- How can I help my child become an efficient problem solver?
- How do children best learn mathematics?
- How can parents promote quality thinking and learning?
- How can I help my child in mathematics?
