IMPORTANT DATES!
PRINCIPALS’ REPORT
A very big welcome back to all of our students and families. We have a big term planned and look forward to getting back into it. I am very pleased to report that during the first week our students have been demonstrating the school expectations and values in the classroom and in the yard and it has been wonderful to catch up with the students and find out about their holiday adventures. We have commenced our dance lessons in readiness for the school production this term and we have many other exciting activities planned for the term. I look forward to catching up with you all at a number of our term 2 events.
Reporting Mathematics Victorian Curriculum 2.0
I did want to let you know about the changes to student reporting for mathematics in Victorian government schools.
The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) recently published its revised mathematics curriculum (Mathematics curriculum 2.0).
All Victorian government schools will start using the Mathematics curriculum 2.0 in 2024 or 2025. At we RGLPS we are using the revised mathematics curriculum for school reporting from Semester 1 2024.
On your child’s previous report, the teacher reported against the 3 strands of the achievement standard for mathematics (Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability). Under the Mathematics curriculum 2.0, your child’s teacher will report against the achievement standard as a whole, providing a single, aggregated score.
As the achievement standards reported on have changed, the first time you receive a report under the Mathematics 2.0 curriculum, it will only show achievement and not progress. For all reports after this, progress will be shown against the single achievement standard.
The VCAA made these changes to help teachers plan their teaching and learning programs in mathematics, giving them more flexibility to support students to link ideas within mathematics and also with other curriculum areas.
For further information, refer to the department’s policy on Reporting Student Achievement and Progress Foundation to 10.
If you have any queries about your child’s report, please contact Kerron Worsdell phone: 9457 4178 or email: Kerron.Worsdell@education.vic.gov.au
Please note that content has also shifted around particularly in the Year 3 – 6 areas. In some areas the shift has been quite significant, and students will not have scores that correspond to their previous reports. The Year 6 curriculum now features many areas of content that were previously covered in Year 7 and 8 and this backward conversion is fairly typical across the primary levels. We are really excited to extend our students and move quickly through additional content but are also very mindful that the transition to the content will take a little time.
Staffing
Welcome to Riley Graydon, Riley is the new 6SL classroom teacher on Monday’s and Tuesday’s. Sarah McLellan will be commencing her parental leave very soon and we wish her all the best as she commences life with a growing family. Whilst we will miss Sarah during this absence, we are very grateful to have such a quality replacement.
We have also managed to acquire an AUSLAN teacher this term as Marian Deville joins us. Marion is an accomplished AUSLAN teacher and we look forward to the contribution she will make to our kids at RGLPS.
ANZAC Day Ceremony
Excitement is building for our annual ANZAC day ceremony on Wednesday the 24th of April at 12:30. We are hoping to be outside but will move into the hall if the weather is not in our favour on the day. Hope to see you there!
Take care,

Classroom Helpers Course
Thank you to all the wonderful parents who attended the Classroom Helpers Course on Thursday. I wish to clarify some information regarding the course components.
The Classroom Helpers course consists of two components: Classroom Helpers and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). While the Classroom Helpers component does not need to be completed every year, there have been updates to OHS regulations, requiring all classroom helpers to complete the OHS component annually.
In response to this, we will be conducting another Classroom Helpers/OHS course on Thursday, May 16th, at 5:30 pm.
Additionally, for your convenience, we will offer an online OHS refresher course in the coming weeks. The exact date will be confirmed soon.
Lunch Time Clubs
At RGLPS, we recognise that some students may find large, open play spaces overwhelming. That’s why we’re excited to announce a variety of activities tailored to students of all ages and interests.
From engaging workshops to interactive sessions, we have something for every year level. These activities provide an opportunity for children to explore and enjoy themselves in a more controlled environment, fostering a sense of comfort and inclusion for all.
We’re committed to ensuring that every student feels supported and valued, and these offerings are just one way we strive to meet the diverse needs of our student body.
Mother's Day Stall
This year, we’re excited to host our annual Mother’s Day stall on Tuesday, May 7th, to celebrate all the wonderful mothers (or special person) in our community.
To ensure the success of this event, we are reaching out to our parent community for assistance. Whether you can spare the entire day or just a portion of it, your help is greatly appreciated.
We’ll be posting a link on Compass this week where you can sign up for volunteer slots. Your support in running the stall will contribute to making this day memorable for all.
Thank you for your generosity and willingness to contribute to the spirit of Mother’s Day at our school.

TEACHING AND LEARNING
Hello everyone and welcome to Term 2. It is good to be back at work and to see everyone again.
Apologies about the absence of a Teaching and Learning newsletter item for the last few weeks of Term One. I had to take extended leave unexpectedly following a sudden bereavement and I was off work for the whole month of March.
Term 2 Team Newsletters
It is hoped that Term Two Team Newsletters will be available by the end of next week. Please keep an eye on Compass for an alert as to when these become available.
A reminder that Team Newsletters provide an overview of learning programs for the term as well as important dates and information relevant to each year level. We encourage all parents/carers to carefully read the newsletters to stay informed around what is happening at school that directly impacts your child.
School Policies
A reminder that RGLPS Policies are accessible to parents by two pathways. Policies are stored on Compass – please see Compass Community Icon -> School Documentation -> Year Level Newsletters -> 2024 ->Term 2
Policies are also available on the school website. https://www.rosanna-golflinks-ps.vic.edu.au/ See Community tab and scroll down to School Policies. See Additional School Policies for an alphabetical list of current RGLPS policies.
