 PRINCIPALS’ REPORT

Semester 1 2023 Reports

Reports will be released to parents on Wednesday 21st June 2023. Parents will have an opportunity to discuss these with their child’s teacher/s at Three Way Conferences on Wednesday the 19th July. This year we have opted to report throughout the year with portfolio samples uploaded to Seesaw regularly. It is always great reflection to be able to see the pieces improve as the year continues. We are also starting to see these reflections positively impact our student perception of themselves as a learner with improved mindset moving forward. The traditional semester reporting does give you an overview of your child/ren and their progress over time and in relation to their peers, but I must say I very much enjoy the concrete examples of the skills that students are presenting in the classroom through the portfolio.

2023 Book Week

Don’t forget RGLPS will be celebrating Book Week with a ‘Book Character Parade Assembly’ next term. Students will be invited to dress as their favourite character at on Monday 21st of August at 9am. This year’s theme is ‘Read, Grow, Inspire.’ We encourage parents/carers to save this date so they can attend and join in the Book Week celebrations at RGLPS.

NAIDOC Week

National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week is held in the first full week of July each year. It celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples – the first Australians and the oldest surviving culture in the world. This is a week that we celebrate in schools, but it often falls during the holiday period. As a result, we will be celebrating NAIDOC week during the first week of term 3. Students will reflect on historical events that have occurred during our history. I look forward to celebrating this important milestone with our entire community.

State Schools Relief 'Donate a Dollar Day' - Tuesday 20th June 2023

Don’t forget State Schools Relief (SSR) do incredible work across our public schools and right now they need everyone’s help. SSR provides practical, tangible assistance directly to Victorian students who are in need by supplying them with items such as brand-new school uniform items, footwear, undergarments, and a host of other essential educational resources.

RGLPS will be having are having a Free Dress “Donate a Dollar” Day on Tuesday 20th June. All funds will be donated to SSR and will go towards ensuring that every young person in Victoria is able to participate with the same pride and dignity as their peers.

Please join us in supporting this worthy cause.

Take care.

TEACHING & LEARNING

Team Wellbeing Days

Year level teams have been scheduling their Wellbeing Days over the final few weeks of term two. Wellbeing days are intended to be a day of respite from more academically focused learning with a focus on fun, relaxation and wellbeing. Activities might include a dress up day, special lunch, outdoor or board games, cooking, dancing or a movie!

Wellbeing Days are a popular initiative the school commenced in late 2021 to support student mental health. They have also proved a way to enable increased student voice and agency. Your child will no doubt tell families about all the fun activities they engaged in on their scheduled year level Wellbeing Day.

  • School tours can commence and will continue during term 2.

  • In late term 1, a ‘Prep Enrolment Information Pack for Schools for Parents/Carers for the 2024 school year’ will be distributed to all families by early childhood service providers (kindergartens and childcare centres). The pack will also be available from the school if required.

TERM 2

  • Monday 24th April 2023: from this date enrolments can be submitted using the ‘Application to Enrol in a Victorian Government School Form’ from the information pack.

  • Open days, information sessions and Education Week celebrations will be held.

TERM 3

  • Friday 28th July 2023: enrolment applications are due.

  • Friday 11th August: families will receive written notification of their enrolment outcome.

SCHOOL CROSSING SAFETY

Bronwyn has recently injured her wrist.

This has made managing her school crossing duties slightly more difficult, so she would like to thank parent’s and students for their patience.
