 PRINCIPALS’ REPORT

Last Friday both our T-Ball teams won 2 finals to win the premiership and will now advance to division. Our teams continue to show skill, strategy and sportsmanship which is a wonderful combination on the diamond. Our footy team also featured in the finals. Whilst not reaching the grand final, we were so proud of the manner in which they competed, the effort they displayed and the overall attitude they gave for the whole season.

It was also fantastic to build our students up this week during the 3-way conference format. We have been working very hard to scaffold opportunities for our students to have more agency over their learning and the 3-way conference is a very important step towards goal setting. We aim to give our students autonomy over how to get to the next stage of their learning. We certainly have exciting times ahead.

Upcoming Changes to NAPLAN Reporting

As NAPLAN results for students were released this week, I’m writing to inform you of some changes to this year’s reporting. These are changes being introduced nationally by the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA).

NAPLAN will continue to measure student achievement in numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, and grammar and punctuation but the results will now be presented in 4 proficiency levels:

These are:

  • exceeding
  • strong
  • developing
  • needs additional support.

This change will give schools, parents and carers clearer information that details student achievement against new proficiency levels.

Students’ NAPLAN reports will continue to show how they are tracking against their peers and provide an indication of their skill levels against national averages and where we would expect them to be in order to get the most out of schooling. This provides valuable information to teachers about how we can continue to support your child.

Each set of NAPLAN results is an important milestone but it’s also important that students know that one result does not define them – these results are about making sure every student gets the support they need so they can continue to get the best from their learning.

When we provide you with your results, you will also receive information about what the new proficiency levels mean. These will be mailed to families as soon as they have been delivered to school so do keep an eye out for these results.

As ever, you’re welcome to speak to me, or your child’s teacher with any questions about these changes.

Take care,

Kirrily Lamers

Education Victoria

Did you know that Education Victoria has a website that contains lots of helpful information for parents? https://www.vic.gov.au/education-information-parents

Often, teachers get questions about how to help at home. As teachers at Rosanna Golf Links Primary School we want to build genuine partnerships with families to support students learning at home. We want learning to be seamless and develop a love for learning. We always welcome conversation about your child’s progress and what can be done to support them.

If you are wondering about or want to learn a little more to help you child at home the tab ‘supporting your child’s education: (https://www.vic.gov.au/supporting-your-childs-education)’ is a great place to start.

TEACHING & LEARNING

Book Week 2023

On Monday 21st August, RGLPS will hold its annual ‘Book Character Dress Up Assembly’ to celebrate CBCA Book Week. The assembly will be held at approximately 9:10am on the basketball court. Please note that we are holding this special assembly early in the school day to ensure that student costumes are at their best – there will be no regular afternoon assembly on this day.

RGLPS students are invited to dress up as a favourite book character in keeping with the 2023 Book Week theme of ‘Read, Grow, Inspire.’ Prizes will be available for the most creative costume in every year level.

Across Book Week, all classes will engage in fun activities around children’s literature and have opportunity to explore Children’s Book Council of Australia nominated texts for 2023.

We would love to see lots of parents/carers at this assembly, so please take note of the date if you would like to attend!
