 PRINCIPALS’ REPORT

Someone told me that we only have 4 weeks left of the year. I cannot believe that this is possible. As we welcome our 2024 Preps into the school, I feel like it was just a few weeks ago that we first met our 2023 Preps. There just seem to be so many more things that we have left to do this year. In the next few weeks, we will have a 2024 Prep information evening, softball state finals, Tee ball state finals, our end of year music concert, an information session regarding BYOD trials, Christmas Carols and family picnic on the triangle, graduation, Year 4 camp, a host of excursions and a whole school transition day. I am so pleased to have such great opportunities at RGLPS.

COVID-19 Reminder

There is at present an increase in community transmission of COVID-19 in Victoria.

You can help us keep our school as safe as possible by taking 2 important steps:

  1. Ensure your COVID-19 vaccinations are up to date. Information on how and where to get vaccinated is available on the Get vaccinated webpage.
  2. If your child shows symptoms of COVID-19, please ensure they stay home and get tested. The easiest way to test is to use a rapid antigen test (RAT). Free RATs are available from your local council where you can collect 2 packs of 5 RATs and an extra 2 packs for each person in your household. People with disability and their carers can get 4 packs of 5 RATs. You are not required to have a Medicare card and you can collect RATs as many times as you need. You can also buy RATs at supermarkets, pharmacies and other retailers.

If your child has symptoms but tests negative, please ensure they stay home until they no longer have symptoms.

If the RAT test result is positive, please ensure they say home for at least 5 days and until there are no more symptoms.

Thank you for your support – these steps will help us all stay well.

Take care,

Kirrily Lamers

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

TEACHING & LEARNING

There is so much happening at Golf Links at present! Yesterday, we had the Year 3 Big Day Out excursion to the MCG, National Ports Museum and Yarra River Cruise. This event was part of our RGLPS Camping program with our Year 3 students attending a long day excursion before commencing overnight camps from Year 4.

RGLPS is also in the midst of 2024 Prep Transition sessions and next week, we commence speeches for 2024 student leadership roles. Best of luck to those students currently in year 4 and 5 who are seeking one of these leadership roles for next year!

Annotated Portfolio Samples on Seesaw

In the lead up to the end of the school year, teachers are busy uploading portfolio learning samples to Seesaw illustrating student achievement and progress for Term 4. Classroom teachers will upload an annotated learning sample for the following areas:

  1. English – Reading and Viewing
  2. English – Writing
  3. English – Speaking and Listening
  4. Mathematics – Number and Algebra
  5. Mathematics – Measurement and Geometry OR Statistics and Probability
  6. Inquiry

I remind everyone that these uploaded portfolio samples may not be end of unit ‘polished’ learning pieces. Portfolio tasks may demonstrate a ‘snapshot in time’ demonstrating how your child is going. Each sample will clearly list the skills or understandings your child has demonstrated from the RGLPS Developmental Learning Continuums. Several teams will be using the moderated writing and number tasks that were assigned to students across the school

Specialist teachers will also upload portfolio samples for their respective teaching areas once a semester.

Parents are also invited to like and make a comment on work that is uploaded on Seesaw. Children find it really encouraging when their parents take an interest in their learning and like their work.

Semester Two 2023 Reports

Teachers are currently finalising and proofreading Semester Two 2023 reports. These will be released to parents/carers via Compass on Monday 18th December 2023.

On a personal note, I will be on leave next week while I recover from a medical procedure. I hope to be back on deck in early December and look forward to updating the community on teaching and learning news for the last few weeks of the school year.

Have a great week everyone!
