PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

What a wonderful week we have had at RGLPS. I think Wednesday may have been the best day of the year. All of our students returned together with big smiles and pyjamas. We also celebrated our teachers with world teacher day festivities. It has been wonderful just to take a little time to chat to everyone and settle back in. There is much excitement going forward as we prepare for 2022.

Drop Off and Pick Up

Just a reminder that we have a few measures in place to assist us to keep everyone safe. These include adjustments to pick up. Please note the following arrangements.

Students whose surname commences with an A – M will finish school at 3:20pm. Those commencing with an A – F will exit via the front gate and those commencing with a G – M will exit from the back gate. Older siblings are encouraged to pick up younger siblings from the basketball court to avoid adults waiting for multiple students.  We continue to encourage families to arrange a meeting point if your child/ren is independent and allow them to walk and meet you away from the congested gate area. As per the arrangement last time around, students who are walking to school may exit through any gate.
Students whose surname commences with an N – Z will finish school at 3:30pm. Those commencing with an N – S will exit from the front gate and those commencing with a T – Z will exit from the back gate. Please note that we will be flexible with this arrangement and adapt as necessary. To avoid confusion for your child/ren please use the same gate at am drop off as you use for pm pick up. Please give particular attention to reducing the risks associated with congregation at school gates and take steps to contribute to physical distancing within the school.

Transitioning to 2022

Next week marks our start to 2022 transitions. We are delighted to be able to welcome our 2022 preps into school as we begin the important transitioning process. We have also been given clearance to run our whole school transition day later in December. During this day every child will have the opportunity to step up into their new classroom, meet the teacher and spend the day with their new classmates.

Parenting Webinar

There are still a few places left for the upcoming Family wellbeing webinar (see flyer below). Even though things are ‘feeling’ more normal now, it is important to continue discussing, working on and modelling positive behaviours and relationships with our families and children. If you are interested in attending follow the link on the flyer.

2021 Maths Olympiad Results

A big congratulations to all RGLPS students who participated in the 2021 Maths Olympiad. Maths Olympiad problems are pitched several years above student’s actual year level. RGLPS team members from Year 4-6 are attempting problems involving mathematics concepts up to Year 10 level. To successfully solve any Maths Olympiad question, students are performing a minimum of 12 months above the expected level for their year and likely 3-4 years above their level. All participating students should be commended for taking on the challenge in 2021.

Due to disruptions caused by lockdowns and remote learning, APSMO have advised that this year’s certificates and prizes were awarded based on total scores from the first four Olympiads only. Results from Olympiad #5 were not included in the overall results this year due to difficulties maintaining Olympiad protocols in our remote learning context. The maximum score students could be awarded this year is twenty.

Several RGLPS students were awarded special certificates or prizes for high achievement this year. Congratulations to:

  •    – Bowen Y – Bowen answered 18/20 students correctly, placing him in the top 2% of students participating in the Maths            Olympiad (Junior Division) around Australia. Bowen is awarded a Maths Olympiad trophy, medal and certificate for his             achievements.
  •    – Madeline O’R scored 14/20 which places her in the top 10% of students in Australia. Madeleine is awarded a Maths                   Olympiad medal and certificate.
  •    – Jade D and Grace R placed in the top 40% of participating students Australia-wide. They will both receive certificates                acknowledging this achievement.
  •    – Alexander L-Y and Leben R scored in the top 50% of participating students Australia-wide and will similarly receive                    certificates acknowledging this achievement.

All members of the 2021 Maths Olympiad team will be awarded a certificate for their involvement in tournament this year. Congratulations to: Eva L, Jed L, Violet T, Ellie V, Toby W, Samuel W, Levi H, Jack B, Eamonn N, Lachlan P, Lincoln T, Marshall H, Molly M, Kyle S and Sullivan C.

All students will be presented with their certificates and prizes at school this week.
